Decline and Fall
Nov. 3rd, 2004 08:34 pmWhere my country is concerned I have found that I am best served by hoping for the best but expecting the worst. This means that I am often disappointed (nothing new there, then), but rarely wrong (much as I may wish to be).
Don't get me wrong - I did my part, applied for my absentee ballot, voted my conscience and posted it halfway around the world. But I never believed that the kind of people who shared my beliefs were more than a minority. So don't look for me either, 'cause I'm already gone. (Still, I expect they don't want my kind anyway.)
Oh well, America, better luck next lifetime, eh?
