Or, the long overdue update in outline form. Things which have happened recently (for certain values of recent) that might be of interest to friends and acquaintances:

1) Received approval of both my Work Permit and Visa, and am legal to remain in the United Kingdom through 2009, at which point I would need one further extension. However, one year after that, I would qualify to apply for indefinite leave to remain.

2) Went on retreat to Throssel Hole Abbey for four days. No enlightenment or revelations achieved, but that's not the point, really, is it? (If you have to ask, you wouldn't get it anyway. It's, like, about the *journey*, dude.)

3) Presented a paper at a conference at De Montfort University in Leicester, which I believe went relatively well. The fact that I may or may not have stayed up until 4:30 am in a motel room off the M1 finishing it is beside the point. I have an idea for another one, in a similar vein but concerning a different topic should there be another future event (which we are all hoping there shall!)

4) Commenced the involved process of getting all leave and necessary vacation for April. This trip tentatively will begin with attendance of the SHSL London Conference (Cigar ash identification at Davidoff! Victorian Music Hall!), with a quick stop at the Mike Carey signing on the Saturday, and then off to the Balearic Islands on Sunday, for two weeks as Assistant Cook on the Prince William, followed by a day of rest, probably in Alcuida, and back to work.

5) Read, saw and attended a number of excellent things of culture, including but not limited to: in the item of theater, Alegria, one of the Cirque Du Soleil productions, the Complicite production of Measure for Measure at The National, The Architect at the Clerkenwell Theater and Ian Richardson in The Creeper at The Playhouse; in the item of film, a rewatch of all the Dorothy L Sayers' Lord Peter Wimsey Mysteries, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and of course, Brokeback Mountain; and in books, the magnificent Napoleonic era historical fantasy Temeraire by Naomi Novik, the unusual but interesting fantasy Firethorn by Sarah Mickelm, the entertaining crime romp The Long Firm by Jake Arnott, and the crazed crack-fic (but in a deeply fun way) The Arcanum by Thomas Wheelter.

6) Oh, and I kind of got addicted to We <3 Katamari, but surely that must come as no surprise...

More explanation someday.
