But It's Such A Pretty Boat -

However, since I now know that I will indeed be in Oxford when the anniversary of my birth next rolls around, I have given some thought to a possible plan. This plan involves boats (of course!) but instead of the usual punts or rowboats, I have given thought to an Edwardian River Launch, of the sort available from http://www.oxfordrivercruises.com/.
So, to all of my friends and acquaintances in the local environs or able to get there, I pose this question - would you be interested in spending an hour or three in a launch on the river in congenial company, food, and celebration? And would you be prepared to spend between 10-20 pounds in order to do so?
The tentative date would, of course be September 5, 2004 which falls on a Sunday this year. The options run from a few of us (aka anyone I can convince) booking places on the short river tour, but seeing as the boat holds no more than twelve in any case, it might be possible (not to mention more reasonable) to charter it for the half-day, and assuming I could get a critical mass I'd be willing to make up any difference. The company does catering, but I would have thought it might be just as easy to potluck.
If you're around, and might be interested, please let me know via comment here. Feel free to comment on how much you'd feel comfortable spending, and whether you prefer the idea of a catered meal or not. Do bear in mind that responding to this initial inquiry requires no commitment on your part, but that I might need some prior to laying cash on the barrel head. (I'll probably be calling round to the non-lj-enabled to gage interest as well, but if you know such a one, can you pass the message along?) If I get enough interest, I will proceed with the grand plan.
N.B. Yes, it will be a Navy ship - it *is* going to be my birthday, after all. But the well-mannered, dashing, and gentlemanly (or ladylike) sort of Pirate would not be unwelcome. And of course, there will be Rum. ;)
