A Not-Entirely Gratuitous Icon Post
Feb. 15th, 2005 11:30 amItem The First: Just a reminder, there will be no Napoleonic Nights gathering this coming Sunday, 20 February 2005, because I am off to Cornwall to study for my Dayskipper Shorebased (Theory) Course. Napoleonic Nights will return on Sunday, 27 February 2005 at 4:00ish as usual with Sharpe's Company. I will post the usual notice for that week late on the Saturday, but you all should know the drill by now.
Item The Second: MPhil thesis, woe. Getting legal, gender, social and economic history to layer over each other in a neat and comprehensible fashion is not perhaps the best plan ever. I am at least writing something (finally!), but it's like blood from a stone. I would much rather spend all day in Duke Humfrey with Sir Orlando Bridgman. (Conveyances, baby!) But, hey, I have something like 7,500 (albeit, not very polished) words, and I'll only need about 25,000 come August, so I shouldn't be *too* worried - I hope...
Item The Third: For United Kingdom: If you have the Hallmark Channel come April (or can otherwise obtain it) y'all should watch the new television drama House. It's got medical mysteries, excellent acting (Hugh Laurie, Robert Sean Leonard, Omar Epps), and some of the finest snarkage I've seen since the glory days of BVTS. Yes, I'm biased, since the principal character is a cranky!old!doctor with a cane, but you should watch it anyway. For United States: Why aren't you watching this already, you fourtunate people? In short, House and Wilson are a modern day Holmes and Watson - for deduction, problem solving, friendship, and sheer good fun, among "other" things.
