Riding high on the wave of Tarfalgar Goodness, it's more Sharpe! Portsmouth was teh cool, I faingirled Admiral Lord Nelson, saw lots of tall ships and ate fresh oysters, but sadly missed going on the Grand Turk. I will post at length later this weekend. But, just to remind everyone that we're on again this week.
There are numerous fine films featuring the 18th Century, Napoleonic Wars, and military of various kinds out there, and I've had it in mind to view several of them. So, I'm continuing to host some semi-regular gatherings on Sunday evening at mine - or perhaps more accurately, the the Graduate Common Room downstairs. My plan is to reserve the room and go and watch whatever given film, whether or not anyone else shows up, but I'll have coffee, tea, snacks of some kind, and perhaps alcohol on offer, should others arrive. This week, we continue with the saga of Sharpe in the Peninsular wars: an adventure in fourteen episodes. Now featuring episode twelve...

Time: Starting from around 6:30pm, ending by 8:30pm at the latest.
Location: Rhodes-Wolfson Common Room, Ablethorpe Complex
Film: Sharpe's Revenge - Spymater Ducos is back! Sharpe is framed again! Jane meets Rossendale, and gains her new nickname of That Bitch Jane. But all's fair in love and war, as we feature another episode of Sharpe.
Details: The Ablethorpe Complex is just off the plain, and can be reached from entrances on the Cowley Road and Dawson Street, although the former is probably easier to find, being located in between the Galeria Brazil and Meli, the Greek food shop. If coming by bus, take a 1 or 5, and get off at the stop by Eau de Vie. The Ablethorpe Complex is the sheltered entrance across the street. If coming by car, paid parking is available near the Angel and Greyhound in St. Clements. Sometimes, free parking is available along St. Clements as well.
Please phone, e-mail or comment here if you think you might attend (I will assume the usual suspects unless I hear otherwise). You will either need to buzz the common room (after 6:00pm) or telephone my mobile to be let in when you arrive, and it would be helpful to be expecting a call. The common room is in the new building, nicely furnished, with seating for over a dozen. There is a roof terrace upstairs for those wishing to smoke cigarettes or cigars. Please feel free to bring any other snacks or drinks you might like.
