Farewell and adieu, to you spanish ladies
Jan. 5th, 2006 10:29 amOr hello, and goodbye, more correctly. Just a quick post to say I´m not dead yet, despite it being about F9 during the channel crossing, the ship making an emergecncy press to get to Brest on New Year´s Eve, and getting seasick for the first time ever. (I´ve figrued out it´s neither the pitch nor the roll, but the combination of the pitch and roll together that gets me, as it kind of feels like you´re spun around and then dropped a few stories, so you´re slammed toward the floor-wall-bunk-whatever.) Still, I was fine by the next day, and I even got a decent evaluation, so I might try for a 2nd Cook postition in future. And the kids were great, actually, despite the fact that a large part of my job involved making them do the washing up after meals. Overall, I have emerged from my second Biscay Challenge with a feeling of achievement and a mild head cold.
New Year´s in Brest was interesting, if wet, and I´ve now had a day or so in La Coruna, which is a pretty seaside town in Northern Spain (across from the Ferrol, for those of you who watched Hornblower:The Duchess and the Devil). This afternoon, I fly to Madrid, where I´ll be staying until Saturday lunchtime, with just enough time to catch my flight, get to London, and then dress for dinner at the SHSL Dinner at the House of Commons. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year, and I´ll catch up with you all at greater length next week!
