Few days in London, which involved primarily friends, food and comics - making for a fine time overall. Managed to pick up no more than regular purchases, one collection and one novel -borrowed a few items as well. Meals involved Turkish mezze, vegetarian filo pastry combinations and Japanese okonomiyaki. (NB: You can tell you've gotten old when you realize that your last three Friday nights have been spent watching television with friends - but it was The Sixth Sense, Smallville and Buffy, respectively so I suppose I can plead genre attachment.) Still, much catching up and discussions were had, and I went to a gig on Saturday, so I'm not completely decrepit yet.

Best of all, on Sunday I made my way down to Greenwich and found the location of Urasenke London, and I'm planning to start classes in a fortnight or so! It was quite intimidating at first, as most of the students that afternoon were 1) wearing kimono and 2) speaking Japanese, but all of them were Japanese nationals, so that makes more sense. I was assured that my lack of these attributes would not be a problem in study, and everyone was quite kind and welcoming in any case. I must work on becoming comfortable sitting seiza, however - I find it uncomfortable until my calves go numb, and then when I move, it's so painful I actually feel faint. Hmm - maybe some form of stretching my calves and hamstrings would help.

Library induction for my course begins tomorrow, and I've still many things I want and need to do first. But I'm hoping that I can make London and my friends their a recurring presence in my life - it's most enriching.
